ASUN Basketball: Ranking of 25 best players from last decade (2013-23)
By Joey Loose
7. Ty Greene
A 6’3 guard from Knoxville, Tennessee, Greene found a home at USC Upstate back in 2011 and made quite the impact while with the Spartans. He was ASUN Rookie of the Year as a freshman and even more impactful as a sophomore, but we’re just looking closely at his upperclassman seasons; the stuff that came after 2013.
Junior year was a solid one, with Greene averaging 14.3 points and 3.5 assists while knocking down nearly 86% of his free throws. The Spartans finished the season in 3rd place in the ASUN, though the following year would be even better for Greene. Though USC Upstate’s standing wasn’t improved, he himself had a monster season, averaging 20.3 points per game while hitting nearly 41% of his 3-pointers.
Greene was a great piece for his first three seasons, but he really stepped up a few notches as a senior. He was the ASUN Player of the Year, leading the conference in points, steals, 3-point shooting, and various other offensive metrics. He was vital to all success that USC Upstate experienced in 2015 and was a major weapon for head coach Eddie Payne during his career. He never got a real shot at the postseason, but his contributions won’t soon be forgotten.
