ASUN Basketball: Ranking of 25 best players from last decade (2013-23)
By Joey Loose
23. Josh Williams
A 6’5 wing originally from Jackson, Mississippi, Williams made the trek to Lipscomb and played for the Bisons during Casey Alexander’s first four seasons leading the program. Lipscomb wasn’t a great program at the start of his career, but he helped lead them to a 20-win campaign as a senior and helped begin the program’s breakthrough in the ASUN.
As a freshman, Williams was already averaging 13.0 points and 5.1 rebounds and hit just under 37% of his 3-point attempts. He was a full-time starter in the backcourt as a sophomore with even better shooting numbers, averaging nearly 17 points a game. A knee injury forced him to miss significant time as a junior, but Williams bounced back nicely as a senior. He still put up 13.4 points a game and despite not having his best personal stats he helped lead the Bisons to a second place finish in the ASUN.
Williams earned First Team All-ASUN honors for that remarkable sophomore season, a year where he led the conference in effective field goal percentage. While his injury certainly put a damper on the back end of his career, he was still an important piece of the puzzle as Lipscomb turned things around in the mid-2010’s. Williams also led the ASUN by shooting nearly 85% from the charity stripe as a senior.
