ASUN Basketball: Ranking of 25 best players from last decade (2013-23)
By Joey Loose
22. Ivan Gandia-Rosa
A key part of North Florida’s most recent success, Gandia-Rosa is a 6’1 point guard from Puerto Rico who actually starred at the College of Central Florida as a freshman. He transferred to North Florida in 2017 and was an important piece for the Ospreys over the next three seasons, culminating in a pretty solid senior year for all involved.
A great scorer at the junior college level, Gandia-Rosa turned into an important ball distributor, spending all three seasons as North Florida’s starting point guard. He averaged at or around 6 assists per game in each of those three years, while also averaging exactly 13.8 points per game as both a sophomore and senior. Gandia-Rosa shot just under 38% from long range while with the Ospreys and had a career-high 30-point effort as a senior against Lipscomb.
Unsurprisingly, Gandia-Rosa led the ASUN in assists in each of those seasons, sitting among the national leaders on a few occasions. He was a decent scorer and helped take North Florida to a 21-12 season as a senior, the most wins head coach Matthew Driscoll has won in a season. That season saw Gandia-Rosa claim First Team All-ASUN honors. Unfortunately, the Ospreys have yet to replicate that kind of success, especially on the offensive side of the ball.
