20. Michael Buchanan

USC Upstate’s most significant frontcourt weapon, Buchanan is a 6’11 center from Las Vegas who made his way across the country to play for the Spartans back in 2013. He helped USC Upstate to a bunch of wins across the next four seasons, playing a significant role despite starting just half the games and dealing with foul trouble as an aggresive big man.

Buchanan played a limited role early in his career, though he did have a few nice performances against non-D1 schools as an upperclassman. He showed more potential later in his career, averaging 11.6 points and 6.0 rebounds as a junior with decent metrics all over the court. His senior year numbers were even more solid, putting up 16.1 points and 9.5 rebounds a game and leading USC Upstate to another season above .500.

One of the conference’s best on the offensive boards, Buchanan was twice named All-ASUN, including First Team honors as a senior. He led the conference in field goal percentage during that season and truly blossomed as the Spartans’ man in the middle of the court. The overall rebounding numbers were very impressive and his impact in that offense was monumental, developing into USC Upstate’s leading scorer in his senior season.
