Memphis Basketball: Jordan Brown one of most clutch pickups this offseason
The frontcourt has been very dicey for Memphis Basketball so far this offseason. Landing Sun Belt Player of the Year Jordan Brown helps fill that hole.
One of the busiest teams this offseason in the sport in Memphis Basketball. They entered this weed having landed five transfers, including 6’10 D-II wing, Jonathan Pierre. The individual pieces looked good but the biggest issue was the frontcourt overall.
The Tigers had only landed former Temple forward, Nick Jourdain for the longest time. All of the frontcourt players from last season either transferred out like the Lawson brothers and Malcolm Dandridge or Deandre Williams, who ran out of eligibility.
After being reportedly in the mix for a few other frontcourt targets, Memphis was finally able to land one in Jordan Brown. Considering that we’re almost into July, this was as good a pickup inside for the program as possible. Brown is a 6’11 forward and former five-star prospect and High School McDonald’s All-American.
After stops at Nevada and Arizona, Brown transferred to his father’s alma mater at Louisiana Lafayette. After a strong junior campaign, the big man produced a career-high 19.3 ppg and 8.6 rpg this past season to not only lead the Cajuns to the NCAA Tournament but also win Sun Belt Player of the Year Award.
Brown has always had the talent but was able to unlock it at Louisiana. He’s now at the American Athletic Conference and is currently the projected starting center. There’s not any depth behind him but there’s not only a chance that Dandridge, who is still in the portal, returns to Memphis but Williams could come back as well. The star forward is asking for a waiver to get another year after losing his true freshman season at Evansville due to academic issues.
If Williams is back and paired with Brown, that’s the best frontcourt in the AAC next season and give them a top-20 roster. After some tough moments in the offseason, Memphis Basketball is back on track and once again, should compete for an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2024.
