Kentucky Basketball’s roster building has been a major storyline this offseason. Now, there are just a couple of spots left to fill.

Before West Virginia took center stage in the past month, no single program in NCAA Basketball got more attention than Kentucky Basketball. And while that’s usually the case for the blue blood juggernaut, there were a number of things that went against them at first, before a late comeback.

The team won’t have former National Player of the Year Oscar Tshiebwe or top-10 NBA Draft pick, Cason Wallace. The good news for the Wildcats is that they do bring back Antonio Reeves, who was second on the team in scoring last season and shot over 40% from three-point range. For a while, the Wildcats didn’t have any experience on the roster and were going to give most of the minutes to the No. 1 incoming freshmen class.

But with both Reeves and incoming West Virginia transfer, Tre Mitchell, on the roster, Kentucky looks to have another top-15 caliber roster for next season. They’ve added other commitments as well, including top-50 center, Somto Cyril. But while he was a potential reclass candidate to join the 2023 class, he’s decided to wait until the following year.

That means Kentucky has two more roster spots available and there’s a good chance that they’ll try to fill those roles. If any of those previously mentioned future grad transfers come into play, look for the SEC program to try and get into the mix.

Look for one of those pieces to be a big man, now that Cyril is set to remain in the 2024 class. Right now, the centers on the roster are Ugonna Onyesno and five-star big man, Aaron Bradshaw, who by the way, is reportedly hurt at the moment. The good news is that there isn’t any more panic for the Wildcats, though they have to find a way to add at least one more frontcourt player before next season.
