Big East Basketball: Ranking of 25 best players from last decade (2013-23)
By Joey Loose
14. Sandro Mamukelashvili
A 6’11 big man originally from the nation of Georgia, Mamukelashvili adhered himself to the Seton Hall faithful with impressive play for four seasons. He lived in New York, Georgia, and Italy before playing high school ball back in the states, but originally landed at Seton Hall back in 2017. He’d be an impactful frontcourt weapon for the Pirates across the next four seasons, with his role increasing as time went on.
Mamukelashvili saw minimal action off the bench as a freshman, though he showed promise with a 17-point performance at Xavier. He was a frontcourt starter moving forward, with his scoring numbers greatly increasing as time went on. He shot 54% from the field in his junior year before averaging 17.5 points and 7.6 rebounds as a senior, including a career-high 32-point effort against St. John’s.
Better with each passing season, Mamukelashvili was a minor piece early in his career but became Big East Player of the Year as a senior. He was among the conference’s leaders in points, rebounds, and a number of metrics on both sides of the ball. He was a bona fide weapon for the Pirates and really grew into his role as a menace in the frontcourt.
