Texas Tech Basketball was able to round out its roster for next season with Joe Toussaint. What does he add to the Red Raiders backcourt?

For those that got tired of the transfer portal drama and tuned out, they’ve missed what a good job Texas Tech Basketball has done on the recruiting trail in the past few weeks. The program landed a pair of projected starters and former Arizona State players in Warren Washington and Devan Cambridge and now has added Joe Toussaint as well.

Toussaint is a 6’0 combo guard that started his career at Iowa, where after three years, transferred to West Virginia. He posted his best stats there this past season, averaging 9.4 ppg and 2.6 apg on 37% shooting from the field and 33% from three-point range. That includes a 22-point effort against the same Red Raiders that he’s now joining.

Texas Tech Basketball is going to need his production for its new-look roster. The top three scorers are gone, including starters, De’Vion Harmon and Jaylon Tyson. Pop Issacs is back after averaging 11.5 ppg and 2.7 apg as a freshman, along with Grand Canyon transfer guard, Chance McMillian.

The Red Raiders now have plenty of depth on the perimeter, including D’maurian Williams, Lamar Washington, and Kerwin Walton all returning. The level of Toussaint’s role remains to be seen for next season but with a full roster, the team now has plenty of capable options to work with.

Although they didn’t land any big-time individuals, it’s been impressive work for new head coach, Grant McCasland. He started out later than the others since he was with North Texas in its NIT-title run and had a bunch of roster spaces to fill. But with Toussaint as the likely final addition, the coach and staff were able to make a nice comeback of their own in order to be competitive in the Big 12 next season.
