NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Analyzing top 4 for top-100 forward Isaiah Abraham
Isaiah Abraham is a consensus top-100 prospect in the 2024 NCAA Basketball recruiting class. Which teams are in the running to land him?
One of the top forwards in the 2024 NCAA Basketball recruiting class is Isaiah Abraham, listed at 6’7 and around 200 pounds and is from Fairfax, Virginia. He’s a combo forward, capable of playing both the three and the undersized four-spots.
Abraham is a good athlete with measurables that’ll have the attention of pro scouts. He’s a good shooter and has plenty of two-way potential. Although he’s ranked around the top-75, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he ends up as a pro candidate a couple of years from now.
A couple of weeks ago, Abraham announced a list of four contenders for his services. With a commitment coming likely sometime this month, here’s a look at how he’d fit with each of the reported options.
Marquette Golden Eagles
Coach Shaka Smart has a ton of momentum as a program, set to bring back most of the production on a 29-win team. Despite not having Olivier-Maxence Prosper, forwards Oso Ighodaro and David Joplin are back as upperclassmen. But they could have two years left and the team already has four-star forward, Royce Parham as part of the 2023 class. They could make room for Abraham but he might have to wait a couple of years before big minutes.
Providence Friars
Coach Kim English landed his first commitment with the Friars in point guard Daquan Davis. The forward position will need to be addressed, as Bryce Hopkins is a legit pro candidate after this year. Plus, George Mason transfer Justyn Fernandez reportedly suffered an injury this offseason so time will tell when he’s ready and able to contribute at the Big East level.
UConn Huskies
Coming off winning a national title, expect the recruiting abilities of the Huskies to rise yet another level. The frontcourt for them currently has sophomore forward Alex Karaban, along with top-100 wing, Jaylin Stewart. UConn has plenty of other options in the 2024 class and assuming Karaban is around for a while, there could be a logjam for Abraham to deal with, even without knowing which future stars the program could bring in the coming months.
Virginia Tech Hokies
With starting wing Darius Maddox having transferred out, there’s an opening at wing that multiple players could cover. That includes incoming transfer Mekhi Long and John Camden. This is an option that Abraham could come in and get plenty of minutes and this is an offensive-friendly system under coach Mike Young. And with this being the closest option from a location perspective, Virginia Tech could have the most to offer for the top 100 forward.
