4. West Virginia set to separate itself from Bob Huggins

The reasons why Coach Huggins is doing this varies but at least online, one suggestion is that it’s financially related, since he may not get the same benefits or whatnot. If that’s ultimately the case, there’s a case a settlement can occur to the point where everyone saves face and can salvage this entire situation.

However, Bob Huggins being adamant that he should be the head coach has created a red line. So who knows how this can be resolved amicably? And it would be a shame because he’s been the face of not only West Virginia athletics but one of the faces in the entire sport of NCAA Basketball, especially after guys like Roy Williams, Jay Wright, and Coach K recently left.

Huggins is second all-time in wins in program history, one of three to make it past six seasons, and one of two to even make a Final Four appearance. He guided the program into the Big 12 and kept them nationally relevant in the height of the Big East glory days over a decade ago. There was a chance that the recent Hall of Fame recipient was going to get a statue or even the court named after him.

That still can occur but what happens in the next couple of months will decide how his legacy with West Virginia Basketball goes. It would be sad if this is how it ends but as with several previous chapters in this wild saga, the ending here certainly has yet to be written.
