Atlantic 10 Basketball: In-depth look at Duquesne star Dae Dae Grant
By Bryan Mauro
The breakout mid-major players series is back for its third installment this week. The Fourth of July holiday is over which unfortunately means that Summer is winding down. It also means that we are all getting closer to the start of the college Basketball season. Teams are getting ready to leave on their summer overseas trips, there are still players transferring, and there are still some teams who have interim coaches who have rosters in flux.
One team who does not have to worry about any of these things and is the featured team in this week’s breakout mid-major players article is the Duquesne Dukes. The Dukes return a lot of guys from last season and head into the year as one of the oldest teams in the country. Duquesne also returns one of the most dynamic scorers in the Atlantic 10 Conference. Dae Dae Grant returns for his fifth season of college basketball and his second season in Pittsburgh.
Grant has always been a scorer but has never gotten the recognition he deserved because he has never played for teams that get a lot of coverage. He has also never played in a NCAA tournament which is not helping his cause at all. The guard is one of most underrated players in the game. He is extremely consistent every game and is one of the best players in the Atlantic 10.
The Dukes are going to be one of favorites headed into the season this year so maybe Grant will get the recognition he deserves. He should be a factor in the Atlantic 10 player of the year race, and all Dukes fans are hoping this is the year that head coach Keith Dambrot and Duquesne finally return to the NCAA tournament.
