Atlantic 10 Basketball: In-depth look at Duquesne star Dae Dae Grant
By Bryan Mauro
Expectations for Dae Dae Grant in 2023-24
The Dukes and head coach Dambrot has a ton of expectations for the first time in a long time. Duquesne has not been to the NCAA tournament since the 1976-1977 season and honestly has not been close to making it since then. Duquesne brings back 8 players who all played good minutes for the Dukes last year and they have 5 seniors. They are one of the oldest and most experienced teams in the league and they may also be the most talented team in the league. Grant is looking to finally end his college career with a bang.
Grant will be a 2,000-point scorer, should average close to 20 points per game, haul in around 5 rebounds per game, and will finally play on a winning team. Is the winning team going to be the formula for Grant to finally receive the conference recognition he deserves? It should be. He has the ability especially if he can average 20 points per game to go along with those 5 rebounds, to win the conference player of the year.
The Atlantic 10 is never going to be short on talent but this year a lot of talent has graduated, transferred, or gone to play professional basketball. If there was ever a season for Grant to win the player of the year this would be the year. There has not been this type of player at Duquesne since Sincere Carry.
It has been mentioned a lot and is going to continue to be mentioned a lot this year that Duquesne has a ton of experience and most of their production coming back from last season. There was another mid-major team from a talented conference that had a lot of their team back from the previous season and that was Florida Atlantic. The Dukes don’t have the talent that the Owls had a season ago but they are going to pose a challenge to everyone they play every night and it looks like Grant is finally going to get the recognition he deserves.
