Top-100 forward prospect Isaiah Abraham had four options to choose from and selected UConn Basketball. What does he add to the program?

When four-star class of 2024 prospect Isaiah Abraham announced his list of contenders, there was one of two paths he can take. One was to stay close to home and pick Virginia Tech since he’s a native of Fairfax, Virginia. Or he could end up as a Big East player, with Marquette, Providence, and UConn Basketball among the other three finalists.

In the end, Abraham decided to join the team that had just won the national title, becoming the Huskies’ first official commit in the 2024 recruiting class. There’s an expectation that the program is going to receive a massive boost after winning it all, reportedly in the mix for several top 50 and even five-star prospects.

Abraham gives them a future offensive boost, as a 6’7 combo forward known for his scoring ability. He’s set to replace the likes of Cam Spencer and potentially Stephon Castle, an incoming five-star freshman big guard that could be a “one and done” NBA Draft prospect.

Adding Abraham shores up the frontcourt depth for the future. Alex Karaban could be around for as much as three more seasons as the team’s starting power forward, while the team has a pair of four-star freshmen forwards joining the roster next season in Jayden Ross and Jaylin Stewart.

It’ll be interesting to see what UConn does next in the recruiting class, as point guard and center become the priority positions to handle. There’s a good chance that center Donovan Clingan can go pro if he has a breakout campaign, while Tristen Newton will be gone after his upcoming final year of eligibility.

One thing is clear, Coach Dan Hurley and UConn are about to become a major force on the recruiting trail. Isaiah Abraham is the first example of that and certainly won’t be the last.
