CAA Basketball: Ranking of 25 best players from last decade (2013-23)
By Joey Loose
15. Nicolas Timberlake
A 6’4 wing from Braintree, Massachusetts, Timberlake made his way down to Towson in 2018 and had quite the journey with the Tigers. He was a long-time member of Pat Skerry’s program, seeing very limited action as a freshman before eventually settling into an important role late in his career.
He played just nine games and redshirted as a freshman and came off the bench in year two. His sophomore year was a rough one for Towson in the year after the pandemic, but he started to show his potential. As a junior, he averaged 14.4 points and 4.4 rebounds per game while making 40% of his 3-pointers. He led Towson to the CAA regular season title but they settled for the NIT. He had numerous scoring outbursts in year five with the Tigers, averaging 17.7 points and developing into one of the league’s best guards.
He was CAA Sixth Man of the Year as a redshirt freshman before developing into one of the league’s best scorers. Timberlake earned First Team All-CAA honors for his final two years at Towson, leading the conference in free throw shooting and finishing 13th in the nation from outside the arc. His skill and potential only escalated as his career advanced and he became a potent weapon for the Tigers. Next season, he’ll finish off his collegiate career after transferring to Kansas.
