CAA Basketball: Ranking of 25 best players from last decade (2013-23)
By Joey Loose
7. Grant Riller
A 6’1 point guard from Orlando, Riller had himself quite the career during his four seasons at College of Charleston. He played under Earl Grant and had the end of his career interrupted by the pandemic, but did some great stuff for the Cougars in the time he had in the CAA.
Riller’s freshman year saw him average 13.1 points per game and emerge already as a great scorer for the Cougars. His production would only increase going forward, with some explosive performances late in the season in leading Charleston to the CAA Tournament title, averaging 25 points in the Cougars’ final ten games. He had decent assist numbers as an upperclassman and actually averaged 21.9 points per game in both of those seasons, though he had just that one trip to the Big Dance.
First Team All-CAA for three straight seasons, Riller was the CAA Tournament MVP during that explosive run as a sophomore and ended with 2474 career points, mark that puts him second all-time in the conference. He was a top scorer in the league for several years and contributed to 92 total wins for the Cougars across those four seasons. Riller was a winner who scored a lot of points and helped pave the way for the current success of the program.
