CAA Basketball: Ranking of 25 best players from last decade (2013-23)
By Joey Loose
22. David Walker
Walker is a 6’6 guard from Stow, Ohio who found his collegiate success up at Northeastern. Walker arrived in the CAA back in 2012 and was an important weapon for Bill Coen’s offense for his entire career. We’re not going to look too closely at that freshman year that came over a decade, but the real fun started in his sophomore year anyways.
That season saw Walker average 11.5 points a game, though that numbers would continue to rise. As a junior, he scored 22 in an early season upset at Florida State and would help lead the Huskies to the CAA Tournament title, scoring 15 points against Notre Dame in the Big Dance. His senior year was by far his best as an individual, averaging 17.9 points and 4.0 assists per game as the starting point guard and making 41% of his 3-pointers.
He earned Second Team All-CAA honors in that junior year that ended in the NCAA Tournament, but senior year was far better for Walker. In a season where he lead the conference in points per game, free throw shooting, and long-range accuracy, he was named First Team All-CAA, with his team coming up just short on a return trip to the Big Dance. He played a big role in Northeastern’s success, especially on the offensive side of the ball.
