21. Desure Buie

A 5’11 point guard from the Bronx, Buie made his way over to Hofstra in 2015 and would do well in the Pride backcourt for the next half-decade. He was a bench piece early in his career and missed significant time after tearing his ACL as a sophomore. The road back wasn’t easy, but Buie became one of the league’s best players by the end of his five-year career.

He only averaged a few points a game before the injury, but became a more important part of the offense afterwards. He earned a starting spot during his redshirt sophomore season and established himself as one of the CAA’s best shooters. He made 91% of his free throws as a junior and saw all his numbers explode as a senior. In that final season, the one shortened by the pandemic, he averaged 18.2 points and 5.9 assists per game, shot 41% from 3, and led the Pride to the CAA Tournament title, ending his career with a 20-point title game performance in a win over Northeastern.

As a junior, Buie was named CAA Defensive Player of the Year, actually leading the conference in steals in both of his upperclassmen seasons. He was the assists leader as a senior and earned both First Team All-CAA honors and CAA Tournament MVP for a marvelous final collegiate campaign. It’s a rotten shame that Buie and his teammates didn’t get a chance in the NCAA Tournament, with Buie establishing himself as both an impressive shooter and ball distributor.
