CUSA Basketball: Ranking of 25 best players from last decade (2013-23)
By Joey Loose
7. Jhivvan Jackson
UTSA was only part of Conference USA between 2016 and 2023, having just left the league a few weeks ago, but Jackson certainly belongs on this list. A 6’0 combo guard from Puerto Rico, he was not just a major part of the Roadrunners’ success, but became one of the league’s top scorers in recent memory.
Despite starting just a third of the games during his freshman season, Jackson averaged 18.4 points per game, with a solid shooting touch from all over the court. He had three 40-point performances in the next two seasons, including a 35-point affair in the CUSA Tournament against UAB as a sophomore. The pure numbers are crazy, with Jackson averaging 26.8 points and 5.6 rebounds as a junior. His numbers were slightly less sensational in his senior year, but he was still over 22 points a game across his entire career.
No one in the nation topped Jackson’s 856 points in 2020, albeit the season stopped short by the pandemic. He was CUSA Rookie of the Year and then earned First Team All-CUSA honors for three straight seasons. Jackson was clearly one of the best scorers the CUSA has ever seen, totally 2551 career points and having a major impact for a Roadrunners program that quietly had some solid years in the late 2010’s.
