6. Alex Hamilton

There was a lot of winning basketball at Louisiana Tech in the first half of the 2010’s and Hamilton played a role in much of that success. He’s a 6’4 guard from Chipley, Florida who arrived in 2012, when the program was still in the WAC. For his final three seasons, Hamilton was a full-time starting guard for the Bulldogs who were now in the CUSA and picked up plenty of wins along the way.

As a sophomore, Hamilton averaged 14.5 points per game, including a 31-point effort in a road win at Oklahoma. The Bulldogs would win CUSA regular season titles in his sophomore and junior seasons but settled for NIT runs. As a senior, Hamilton’s numbers were even more impressive, averaging 19.8 points, 6.2 assists, and 5.7 rebounds per game in Eric Konkol’s first season at the helm of the program. He had a triple-double late in the season against Rice and led Louisiana Tech to a third-straight 20-win season.

Hamilton earned All-CUSA honors in each of those three seasons, culminating in Player of the Year as a senior. He was one of the best scorers in the conference in each season and was also on the All-Defense squad during that final campaign. Louisiana Tech won 79 games in those first three years in the CUSA and clearly, Hamilton was a major part of that success, becoming a dynamic scorer, efficient defender, and stat-stuffer who worked his magic all over the court for the Bulldogs.
