NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Analyzing top 8 teams for 5-star 2024 PG Boogie Fland
Earlier this offseason, there were a group of teams that had expressed some interest in Boogie Fland, a consensus five-star prospect in the 2024 NCAA Basketball recruiting class. Some rankings have him ranked in the top 10 overall and while he’s viewed as a capable combo guard, the expectation is that he’ll be running a team’s offense.
There’s now been an update on his recruitment, as Fland has announced his top-8 list. Which of them makes the most sense? Here’s a view of how he’d fit with each of those contenders.
Alabama Crimson Tide
The Tide had three ball-handlers on last year’s roster and two of them are gone, leaving just senior guard Mark Sears to run the offense. Joining him in the backcourt are Aaron Estrada and Latrell Wrightsell Jr., both of whom are seniors. The team didn’t bring in a ball-handlers in the 2023 class (Kris Parker is a wing) so there’s a strong chance that they do that for next year.
The question is do they think they have a shot at Fland? Another target is Jalil Bethea, a top-30 prospect in the 2024 class. If Alabama feels stronger with him, look for them to prioritize Bethea over Fland.
Indiana Hoosiers
There’s no debate on the point guard position with Indiana after next season, as 6th-year senior Xavier Johnson has to move on. His backup is freshman Gabe Cupps, a four-star prospect who wouldn’t be a problem for Fland when it comes to minutes competition.
After landing Mackenzie Mgbako, the Hoosiers are hoping to get more five-star talent, starting in the next class. Point guard is the priority position so look for them to focus on Fland in the coming weeks.
