Rhode Island Basketball: Rams land 2024 forward Tyonne Farrell
Rhode Island Basketball has continued to build for its future with the commitment of forward Tyonne Farrell.
Well, if there is something that Coach Archie Miller and his staff have done exceptionally well since arriving at Rhode Island Basketball, it is recruiting.
The Rams received their second commitment of the Class of 2024 in Tyonne Farrell. The 6-foot-6 forward hails from Baltimore, Maryland, and recently played for Mount Saint Joseph High School and Team Melo EYBL circuit. Farrell announced his decision through a personal Instagram post.
He chose URI over the likes of DePaul, Towson, and UMBC. The Rams have found a lot of success recruiting within the DMV area. In fact, four players on Rhode Island’s current roster are initially from Virginia.
They owe tremendous credit to assistant Kenny Johnson, who is originally from Oxon Hill, Maryland, and later attended the University of Maryland-College Park. He is considered one of the top recruiters in the nation and has coached several NBA players over the years.
Farrell joins three-star point guard Ben Hammond as the second addition to the Class of 2024. Hammond is a 5-foot-11 point guard from Fairfax, Virginia, who is entering his senior year at St. Paul VI Catholic High School. Kenny Johnson served as the lead recruiter on both commits.
We can expect Tyonne Farrell to compete with Brandon Weston, Bradley transfer Zek Montgomery, and Louisiana Tech transfer David Green for minutes. Montgomery and Green are expected to debut for the Rams this upcoming season.
The Rams are entering the second year of the Archie Miller era this season with high hopes to turn things around and emerge as one of the top teams in the Atlantic 10 Conference.
Rhody will have a different roster and fresh slate when the ball is tipped this Fall. The program will open its season on November 6th at home against the Central Connecticut State Blue Devils. URI will also be displaying a new look this season, as they only managed to retain five players from last season’s team. The Rams are coming off a 9-22 campaign last year, and the expectation is that they will continue to improve over time.
