Horizon League Basketball: Ranking of 25 best players from last decade (2013-23)
By Joey Loose
Every passing season of college basketball brings us more. It shows us the evolution of more players into stars, more coaches into legends, and more programs into contenders. We get more memorable moments, from opening night all the way through the Final Four. We get more games and more stories from the hundreds of college basketball players and millions of fans around the nation.
We’re continuing to unfold the stories of these players in this long-running series. We’ve been looking closely at the best players of the last ten seasons in each of the conferences in the country. We’re nearing the halfway mark in this behemoth of a project, proceeding alphabetically by conference name. Today’s attention is on another intriguing mid-major that’s fallen on harder times.
Butler made the national title game in 2010 and 2011 as members of Horizon League Basketball but left this league over a decade ago. More recently, programs like Loyola-Chicago, Valparaiso, and UIC have departed the conference, though the latter two will get some attention today. It’s left the strength of the league to fall on programs like Northern Kentucky and Wright State in recent years, though there’s still plenty of talent in this conference.
As we begin another conference piece, it’s important to remember that we’re only considering players from the last decade. Players can make the list and have played prior to 2013, but those seasons aren’t being included or considered, though we’ll touch on them of course. Seasons outside of the Horizon League don’t factor into the rankings either, and there are a few players who had play in other conferences. Let’s just get right into the best players from the Horizon League’s last ten years.
