16. Marcus Burk

IUPUI has not had a ton of success since joining the Horizon League in 2017 but Burk has been a bright spot during that time. A 6’3 guard, he actually began his career at Campbell, with decent production as a sophomore with the Camels before deciding to transfer. He joined the Jaguars in 2019 and had two very productive seasons in the Horizon.

Burk’s first season with IUPUI was indeed quite productive, averaging 21.3 points per game and shooting the ball well from all the court. Though the team struggled, Burk scored in bunches, including a 39-point overtime performance against Oakland. His senior season was just as dynamic, even if the pandemic altered IUPUI’s schedule, as he averaged 21.7 points and made nearly 41% of his long-range shots. Their 7-9 finish in conference play was actually their best in their first six years in the Horizon.

Burk scored over 1000 points in those two seasons and was named Second Team All-Horizon both times. He likely would’ve gotten more prestigious honors had IUPUI had more on-court success, but Burk clearly proved his talent as a scorer and ball handler, also leading the Horizon in steals during his senior season. It’s easy to dismiss what he did because it came at IUPUI, but Burk was a major weapon and his numbers don’t lie.
