Horizon League Basketball: Ranking of 25 best players from last decade (2013-23)
By Joey Loose
12. Travis Bader
A 6’5 wing from Okemos, Michigan, Bader starred for four seasons at Oakland, joining Greg Kampe’s program way back in 2010. Not only were his first three years more than one decade ago, but the Golden Grizzlies were still members of the Summit League until 2013. Bader established himself as a great scorer and elite 3-point shooter, and that carried over into his final campaign, the program’s first in the Horizon League.
Bader averaged 20.6 points per game as a senior, hitting 40% of his 3-pointers and making major contributions for the Golden Grizzlies. He had some fantastic shooting performances and really went all out at the end of his career, putting up 39 points against Youngstown State in the Horizon League Tournament in the second-to-last game of his career. A few weeks earlier, he actually surpassed JJ Redick’s record for the most career 3-pointers for a player.
For that lone season in the league, Bader was named First Team All-Horizon and was one of the top scorers in the conference. His 3-point shooting was excellent, eventually leaving Oakland having made 504 of those shots. Even if just 147 of them (which was second in the nation in 2014) came during his senior year, we can still appreciate what an elite shooter Bader was for his entire career, especially in a brand new conference to finishing it all off.
