Horizon League Basketball: Ranking of 25 best players from last decade (2013-23)
By Joey Loose
10. Kendrick Perry
A 6’0 point guard originally from Ocoee, Florida, Perry left the Sunshine State for northeastern Ohio and became a major weapon at Youngstown State. He spent all four years as a part of Jerry Slocum’s program, becoming a top-level scorer in the Horizon League in his later seasons. His career began in 2010 and we’re limiting our focus to just his senior season, but it was quite the campaign on its own.
During that senior year, Perry averaged 21.3 points, 4.4 assists, and 4.1 rebounds per game, continuing a career where he stood out as one of the best offensive players in the Horizon League. It was a season full of great shooting performances, including a pair of 30-point efforts against Oakland in his final two collegiate games, including 35 points in a loss in the Horizon League Tournament.
Perry was the Horizon League’s top scorer and earned both First Team All-Horizon and All-Defense honors, being the complete package for the program. He finished in the Top 20 nationally in both points and steals during that final season and was clearly the big name on Youngstown State’s roster for the year. Perry racked up plenty of points and steals during a long and prosperous career and actually was the conference’s all-time steals leader with 246 at the time of his graduation.
