Horizon League Basketball: Ranking of 25 best players from last decade (2013-23)
By Joey Loose
21. Grant Basile
A 6’9 forward from Pewaukee, Wisconsin, Basile had a pretty nice run of success in the Horizon League. He arrived on campus at Wright State back in 2018 and had a major role by the end of his time with the Raiders. He was a limited contributor at the beginning, playing very few minutes as an underclassman, but Basile would earn his success.
As a junior, he averaged 15.0 points and 7.0 rebounds and secured his place in the rotation, becoming much more of a focal point for the Raiders. He ended the season with a 35-point performance against Milwaukee, but Wright State was upset after winning the Horizon League regular season crown. In his senior season, Basile was good for 18.4 points and 8.5 rebounds a game and led the Raiders to the Horizon League Tournament title. He had 14 points in their First Four win over Bryant before dropping 21 against Arizona in a season-ending loss.
Not only was Basile Second Team All-Horizon in those last two years at Wright State, but he led the league in blocks both years and was one of the best scorers and rebounders as well. He had great metrics across the board and was certainly a playmaker for the Raiders. As a result of that success, he transferred to Virginia Tech for his bonus season, playing a major role for the Hokies this past season to finish off his collegiate career.
