NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Analyzing top 8 teams for 3-star forward Malcolm Thomas
Part of the recruiting-rich DMV area, Malcolm Thomas has been a local riser in the 2024 NCAA Basketball recruiting class. He’s a 6’8 forward from Hyattsville, Maryland, and currently plays for DeMatha Catholic. Thomas is a solid athlete that already has good size and a growing offensive game. He’s currently listed as a three-star prospect but there’s a good chance that rises during his senior campaign.
Recently, Thomas announced a list of eight teams in the running for his services, all of whom are power conference programs. Does any of them stand out when it comes to potential fit? Here’s a closer look at each option.
Cal Bears
It’s been a great offseason for new head coach Mark Madsen, who brought in several transfers to get Cal back to being competitive. The question now is whether he can continue the momentum into his first recruiting class. With Fardaws Aimaq leaving after next season there’s going to be a need for more frontcourt help. How good forwards ND Okafor and Grant Newell look next season will also determine how much playing time will be available.
Florida State Seminoles
When not injured, Florida State actually has a decent amount of frontcourt depth. The trio of Cameron Corhen, De’Ante Green, and Baba Miller are also sophomores, though each has pro potential. Coach Leonard Hamilton is known for having a large rotation so there’s a pathway for Thomas to get some early minutes.
