UConn Basketball: Ahmad Nowell pickup continues great recruiting run
The month of July has been very good to UConn Basketball, landing another class of 2024 commit. What will Ahmad Nowell add to the team in the future?
Around a month ago, Ahmad Nowell had a list of four teams in the mix for his services. They were Georgia Tech, Tennessee, Kentucky, and UConn Basketball. Although he currently plays his high school ball in Philadelphia, the 6’0 guard is originally from the state of Tennessee.
In the end, Nowell decided to jump on the Huskies bandwagon, giving them another class of 2024 commitment. He becomes the second in the past couple of weeks, joining four-star combo forward, Isaiah Abraham.
Nowell is one of the top combo guards in the entire 2024 class, ranked in the top 40 overall, according to 247sports. He’s a true ball-handler that can facilitate, while also having high-scoring potential, both on and off the ball. The perimeter player also has a reputation for being a good defender and someone that can be a starter at the power conference level over time.
For UConn, Nowell was a needed guard to add to the future backcourt, where there should be some turnover. Tristen Newton will be gone after next season no matter what, while Hassan Diarra is entering his fourth season. There’s also Stephon Castle, an incoming five-star guard prospect that could be a “one and done” future NBA Draft pro.
The Huskies have another incoming freshman in Solomon Ball, a 6’3 four-star prospect. He and Nowell could be a nice backcourt that can compete in the Big East in the future, though Nowell may have to play more off-the-ball in that scenario.
UConn Basketball isn’t done yet in the 2024 class either, still having several top prospects having them in consideration. Guys like Curtis Givens, Austin Swartz, Tyler Betsey, and others could be future additions as well. After winning the national title, a recruiting boost is expected. And the next class could potentially be a top-5 group too when it’s all said and done.
