17. Rickey McGill

McGill is a 6’2 point guard from Spring Valley, New York who had himself quite the success in the MAAC. He joined Tim Cluess’s program at Iona back in 2015 and would have an impactful role, becoming the full-time starter for the Gaels in his final three seasons and making some certain noise in the postseason.

After limited contributions as a freshman, McGill jumped into action as a sophomore, averaging 10.5 points and 5.1 assists. He had a 25-point game against Rider in the MAAC Tournament and helped lead the Gaels on another trip to the Big Dance. It certainly wouldn’t be his last taste of March Madness, as the Gaels would get back there in his last two seasons as well. McGill’s scoring numbers would improve. He’d average 15.8 points and 4.8 assists in his senior season. His career ended with a 26-point outing against North Carolina in the 2019 NCAA Tournament.

McGill finally earned First Team All-MAAC honors as a senior and was also named MAAC Tournament MVP. He led the conference twice in both assists and steals and was a solid shooter for much of his career as well. McGill is a rare player, especially in the MAAC, who took four trips to the NCAA Tournament, with three of those coming as a big leader for these Gaels. His contributions were very important at Iona and in recent MAAC history.
