12. Tyson Jolly

Jolly is a 6’4 wing from Oklahoma City who certainly took an indirect path to stardom in the MAAC. Back in 2017, his college career began at Baylor, though he’d score just 32 points in a limited role that season. After sitting out a year, he transferred to SMU, becoming a major presence as a sophomore before deciding to transfer again. He landed at Iona, spending a single season in Rick Pitino’s program.

His time in the MAAC came during the 2021-22 college basketball season in what was his senior campaign. Jolly averaged 14.6 points and 4.8 rebounds and became quite the experienced leader for the Gaels. He was Iona’s leading scorer and played a major role all over the court during that season. Though it would end with an upset loss in the MAAC Tournament, Jolly was still an effective weapon all year long.

As a result of that success, he was named MAAC Player of the Year, becoming not only one of the top scorers and rebounders in the conference but one of its top contributors. He was really important to Iona and his impact was certainly felt even if it was just for one season. Jolly was a solid shot blocker and did what was necessary during a 25-win season for the Gaels.
