MAAC Basketball: Ranking of 25 best players from last decade (2013-23)
By Joey Loose
11. Jermaine Crumpton
A 6’6 wing from Niagara Falls, New York, Crumpton did not travel far for his own collegiate career, spending his four-year career at nearby Canisius. The Golden Griffins had varying level of success during Crumpton’s career, under two different head coaches, though things were going pretty great all around by senior year.
Crumpton would prove to be a solid scorer throughout his college career, though he was coming off the bench as an underclassman. He did average double-figures as a sophomore, but then came the real success. He was up to 15.9 points a game as a junior, hitting 43% of his long-range shots. Senior year was the real moneymaker, with Crumpton averaging 17.1 points and 5.4 rebounds while leading Canisius to a 21-win season and MAAC regular season title.
He’d earn Third Team All-MAAC honors in that junior season, but again senior year was where the magic really happened. Crumpton shined under new coach Reggie Witherspoon and was named co-MAAC Player of the Year as a result. He was instrumental in Canisius’s best season in recent memory and really shined during his time in the MAAC.
