MAAC Basketball: Ranking of 25 best players from last decade (2013-23)
By Joey Loose
1. Justin Robinson
Seemingly undersized, Robinson is a 5’8 point guard from Lake Katrine, New York who blossomed into a major star during his time at Monmouth. When he arrived on campus in 2013, the Hawks were coming off a rough season and his freshman year wouldn’t be much better. His next three seasons would prove far more successful, both for him and for his own program.
After that freshman year, where Robinson was actually a solid contributor, things got much better and Robinson’s numbers showed that. As a sophomore, he averaged 13.4 points per game and led Monmouth to 18 wins, a major improvement. His 3-point shooting would steadily increase as would his total offensive game. The Hawks would win 55 games between his final two seasons and Robinson was a menace, averaging just over 19 points per game in each season, including a 40-point outburst at Siena.
This short guard was the league’s top scorer as both a junior and senior, earning MAAC Player of the Year honors for both of those seasons. He topped the MAAC in steals as a junior and was an electric player on both sides of the ball. His metrics were phenomenal and he contributed to a pair of Monmouth teams that won MAAC regular season titles. The only knock on Robinson is that he never played in the Big Dance, with Monmouth upset multiple times despite some fantastic performances.
