MAAC Basketball: Ranking of 25 best players from last decade (2013-23)
By Joey Loose
19. Ike Azotam
A 6’7 forward from Boston, Azotam’s time in the MAAC was brief but it was pretty sweet. He spent his college playing days at Quinnipiac but actually arrived way back in 2010. He became a major contributor beginning with his sophomore year, but the Bobcats were still in the NEC until 2013. Today’s focus is just on that senior year; Quinnipiac’s debut in the MAAC.
Frankly, it was a really solid debut on Azotam’s part, as he’d average a double-double with 16.2 points and 10.2 rebounds a game. He had a run of fine-scoring performances and led Quinnipiac to a 3rd place finish in their first season in the league. The Bobcats not only won 20 games and played in the CIT, but got some really remarkable performances from Azotam late in the year.
Earning First Team All-MAAC honors in a team’s first year in the league is pretty impressive and Azotam deserved it. He was the MAAC’s top rebounder and one of the national leaders in offensive rebounding. His work in the paint was terrific and a major part of Quinnipiac’s quick success in the conference. Azotam started to make a name for himself in the NEC over a decade ago but really solidified his career with that awesome senior season.
