NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Analyzing top 10 teams for 5-star VJ Edgecombe

Continuing the run of top class of 2024 NCAA Basketball prospects narrowing down their respective choices is VJ Edgecombe. He’s a consensus top-30 overall recruit, with 247sportsComposite listing him as a five-star prospect.

Originally from the Bahamas, Edgecombe is a 6’5 guard/wing with great size and natural scoring ability. He currently plays in New York, coming off winning the Max Preps High School Player of the Year. Outside of top-3 overall recruit Tre Johnson, it’s hard to find a better shooting guard in the 2024 class overall.

Edgecombe has now limited his list of options to 10, including nine NCAA Basketball programs and the NBA G League Ignite Team. Currently, the newer initiative from the NBA doesn’t have any commitments from this class but they were able to land two top-10 recruits from the 2023 class in Ron Holland and Matas Buzelis, two early projected lottery picks in the next NBA Draft.

If Edgecombe opts to go the college route instead, here’s a look at how he’d fit with the other nine options.

Alabama Crimson Tide

The Tide have three senior guards on the roster for next season, including Hofstra transfer, Aaron Estrada. And assuming that Rylan Griffin does indeed have a breakout campaign, Alabama will need multiple guards from the 2024 class.

Right now, the SEC program is in the mix for several top-40 shooting guard prospects, including Tre Johnson. Jalil Bethea, Jase Richardson, and Cam Scott are also considering Alabama. Edgecombe’s ability to play the wing, another open position, allows them to add multiple if need be.
