Texas A&M Basketball: 3 reasons the Aggies can win the SEC in 2023-24
In his first two years at Texas A&M Basketball, Buzz Williams won a total of 24 games (his second season was truncated by covid), and in his next two, he’s won 25 or more in each. Last season the Aggies were a surprise second-place finisher in the SEC last season, they finished 25-10 and 15-3 in the conference.
Despite the good year, the season ended on a bit of a sour note, first, they reached the SEC tournament title game but were dispatched by Alabama 82-63. That was followed up by getting knocked out of the NCAA tournament by Penn State76-59 in a game where they led 12-11 but then saw the Nittany Lions go on a 37-16 run to put the game out of reach.
Coming into this season Williams and the Aggies will be looking to build upon the good things they accomplished last season after being picked to finish 6th in the SEC including an unblemished home conference record of 8-0 that includes wins over top-25-ranked Missouri, Tennessee, and Alabama. With an eye toward the SEC title, Texas A&M should consider itself a contender for that title. There will be a lot of competition for the top spot in the conference, be it from Arkansas, Alabama, Tennessee, or the like, winning the league won’t be easy.
I believe the Aggies are one of the best-positioned teams in the league to take home the title and here are the three biggest reasons I think Texas A&M can win the SEC in 2023-24.
