NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Analyzing top 7 teams for top-30 forward Tyler Betsey
Duke Blue Devils
While all of the attention is on the Cooper Flagg recruitment and a possible reclassification, the Blue Devils are still looking to build on the rest of its 2024 class. They already have top-50 shooting guard Darren Harris, along with five-star wing, Isaiah Evans.
Betsey could be the other forward that Duke adds to maintain quality depth but he’d be risking playing time. Because even if we assume that Kyle Filipowski and Mark Mitchell are gone, there’s still TJ Power and Sean Stewart, two top-30 incoming freshmen forwards that may have to wait a year themselves before any realistic playing time. And that’s before we know what Flagg ultimately decides to do.
Indiana Hoosiers
The Hoosiers are after two small forwards in the class. Not only Betsey but also Liam McNeeley, a five-star forward prospect. It’s hard to see them getting both and the Big Ten program may have a better shot with McNeeley. But assuming that doesn’t work out, it’s not clear how the future roster will look here.
Five-star incoming freshman Mackenzie Mgbako may or may not be a “one and done” NBA Draft prospect, while projected starting power forward Malik Reneau is in the same spot entering his sophomore campaign. If neither leaves, that creates an unexpected logjam for Betsey to deal with for at least one year.
