NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Analyzing top 7 teams for top-30 forward Tyler Betsey
UConn Huskies
The Huskies already have a pair of top-60 commits in the 2024 class in Ahmad Nowell and Isaiah Abraham. Between the two, Abraham is a 6’7 combo forward but he’s better off as a wing. Still, Betsey is ranked higher and his versatility would be a nice addition to the Big East program. The presence of starting forward Alex Karaban could affect the playing time since he’s not really a true NBA prospect at the moment and likely will be around for 3-4 years.
Considering that he’s truly from the area, it’s hard to see how UConn loses out on Betsey. Coming off winning a national title and potentially not being in on four-star recruit Jahki Howard, the Huskies have plenty to offer, especially if five-star incoming guard Stephon Castle isn’t long for NCAA Basketball. Still, there are some big names who also have won national titles in the mix as well.
Villanova Wildcats
Before UConn won the national title, a case could be made that Villanova was the top program in the Northeast region, since they have two recent titles of its own. Still, their name has heavy cache with prospects, even without Hall of Fame head coach Jay Wright around.
The Wildcats also have plenty of playing time available in the future. Richmond transfer Tyler Burton, who Betsey compares most to, is only around for one year. And Eric Dixon and wing Hakim Hart will be gone as well. The program hasn’t had a commitment yet in the 2024 class but this top-30 prospect would be an excellent start for Villanova.
