Mikey Lewis is one of the top prospects out west in the 2024 NCAA Basketball recruiting class. Which programs are in the mix to land him?

Mikey Lewis is originally from Nevada but now plays his basketball in California for the prestigious Prolific Prep. He’s risen up the rankings into a four-star and top-100 overall prospect as a 6’3 combo guard. He has good ball-handling skills and can play off-the-ball as a capable shooter.

Around a week ago, Lewis announced a list of six teams in the running, including a couple of the top mid-major NCAA Basketball programs. But which of them makes the most sense? Here’s a closer look at the potential fit of each roster.

Illinois Fighting Illini

The Illini are going to lose guard Terrence Shannon Jr. after next season but the two other players to watch are Ty Rodges and freshman Dravyn Gibbs-Lawhorn. Those two will be running the offense and depending on how that goes, look for Lewis to have a chance to get meaningful playing time anywhere in the backcourt.

Kansas Jayhawks

Between incoming transfers and outgoing freshmen, the potential for minutes for Lewis and other class of 2024 guards has gone up at Kansas. Dajuan Harris is entering his fourth year, while Texas transfer Arterio Morris could be a national breakout candidate. They do have Elmarko Jackson and Jamari McDowell, a pair of freshmen key pieces so that’s something Lewis may have to deal with, even without transfers.

LSU Tigers

The Tigers have a lot of veteran guards, including Tulane transfer, Jalen Cook. He may not play without a waiver and the team does have four-star freshman ball-handler, Mike Williams III. There’s a potential logjam in Year 1 here for Lewis but it’ll be clear in the future for him and other 2024 commits.

Ole Miss Rebels

There are two commits for the Rebels in the 2024 class, including guard Jason Jackson. The team has Matthew Murrell and Brandon Murray on the roster, as well as Arizona State transfer, Austin Nunez. Point guard is the position of concern for the program so Lewis could have an opportunity to run the offense at Ole Miss if that’s not cleared up a year from now.

San Diego State Aztecs

After making it to the national title game, San Diego State is hoping to get a boost on the recruiting trail. They have three-star commit Taj DeGourville in the 2024 class but need some more perimeter help once Darrion Trammell is gone. It’s a local option for Lewis, who could start Day 1 here and have a big role early on.

Saint Mary’s Gaels

The Gaels are another local option available for Lewis, who could shine in the WCC if he were to commit. They have Aidan Mahaney for the next couple of years but after losing Logan Johnson, there’s a question as to who’ll run the offense. They can answer that with this prospect.
