Cam Scott is one of the top shooting guards in the 2024 NCAA Basketball recruiting class. Which programs are in the running to land him?

Last season, GG Jackson was the top prospect from South Carolina in the NCAA Basketball recruiting class. This time around it’s Cam Scott, a 6’5 shooting guard from Lexington, South Carolina. He’s a legit shot-maker from mid and deep range and has the size to play anywhere on the perimeter.

Scott has recently announced a list of six team options and is reportedly set to announce it on August 11th. But which of them makes the most sense? Here’s a closer look at the roster of each option.

Alabama Crimson Tide

The Tide is looking for a quality shooting guard in the 2024 class to replace Aaron Estrada once he leaves after this season. The concern here is whether will Scott be the priority for the program. They’re also after Jalil Bethea and VJ Edgecombe, two other top-30 guard prospects. If Alabama misses out on Scott, look for them to focus more closely on them.

Auburn Tigers

Auburn already has five-star PG commit Tahaad Pettiford in the 2024 class but will also be looking for a shooting guard to pair with him. That’s because both KD Johnson and FIU transfer Denver Jones are entering their 4th years and could leave. And even if that doesn’t happen, there’s room on the wings for Scott to come in and have a big role.

Ole Miss Rebels

The Rebels are likely losing veteran guard Matthew Murrell after next season and may not have Brandon Murray if he’s eligible and has a big year. This is a spot where new Coach Chris Beard does have options in the future but needs someone like Scott that has a high ceiling in order to compete in the SEC going forward.

Oregon Ducks

The Ducks are now moving to the Big Ten and could have a completely new roster by the time they get there. In the backcourt alone, they’ll lose guards Jermaine Couisnard, Kario Oquendo, Jesse Zarzuela, and potentially Keeshawn Barthelemy as well. Plus, there’s no telling what five-star freshmen wings, KJ Evans and Mookie Cook will do as potential NBA Draft picks. There’s a lot of moving pieces but Oregon will have plenty of playing time on the court.

South Carolina Gamecocks

Coach Lamont Paris is hoping that like with GG Jackson, he can keep the next local star from leaving the state. The program is clearly rebuilding and with Ta’Lon Cooper and Ebrima Dribba leaving, there’s plenty of room for Scott to come in and be the focal point of the offense. But he likely won’t be winning much there.

Texas Longhorns

The Longhorns know it needs to find a shooting guard in the 2024 class to replace both Max Abmas and Ithiel Horton, two senior transfers who’ll only be around for one year. Scott would be able to play in the SEC since Texas is set to move from the Big 12 and he’d be able to get a large role and likely start from Day 1.
