Jaeden Mustaf is an elite combo guard in the 2024 NCAA Basketball recruiting class. Which teams are in the mix to land him?

The month of August is expected to heat up when it comes to the 2024 NCAA Basketball recruiting class. One player with a looming decision is Jaeden Mustaf, who is reportedly announcing a month from now on September 14th.

Originally from the state of Maryland, the 6’4 combo guard prospect now plays in Georgia for Overtime Elite. Mustaf is a physical and tough perimeter player that can guard multiple positions and handle the ball as well. His versatility will be impactful at the college level for his next team.

But who will it be? Here’s a look at the six teams in the mix and Mustaf’s potential fit with them.

Arkansas Razorbacks

The Razorbacks added a ton of guards this offseason, including a few with just one year left of eligibility. El Ellis, Khalif Battle, and Jeremiah Davenport will be gone a year from now, as well as potentially Tramon Mark. Mustaf could find a role here but there certainly will be a logjam and the odds of starting aren’t good.

Florida State Seminoles

FSU just landed four-star wing AJ Swinton in the 2024 class and is looking for another guard. They’ll be losing both Darin Green and incoming transfer Josh Nickelberry in the backcourt and Chandler Jackson is currently suspended. He’d be a nice fit in Coach Leonard Hamilton’s system and likely start as a freshman.

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

Georgia Tech has a lot of guards on the roster but most of them are upperclassmen such as Miles Kelly and Deebo Coleman. And Ole Miss transfer Amaree Abram is a potential pro prospect as well. It’s important for new head coach Damon Stoudamire to land the local talent in Georgia and improve the overall talent level on the roster to compete in the ACC.

Indiana Hoosiers

Ideally, Mustaf would be part of the upcoming freshman class for Indiana. They’ve been looking for a big guard to pair with Xavier Johnson from the transfer portal but were unable to find anyone. But it could become an even bigger selling point for the prospect because he can handle the ball with the Hoosiers in the year after.

Maryland Terrapins

Maryland is in a similar situation as Indiana, as they’ll be losing starting guard Jahmir Young after next season. The team has a trio of freshmen guards with high promise, including Jamie Kaiser and Jahnathan Lamonte. There will still be room for someone like Mustaf to join the program as part of the new and young core.

NC State Wolfpack

The Wolfpack landed several guards this offseason, all of whom will be entering their 4th or 5th years. So there’s going to be a lot of turnover and the team will need a large class. However, NC State already has landed two guard commits in Tremayne Parker and Paul McNeil Jr. Mustaf is better than them on paper but if some of those veteran perimeter players do indeed come back for an extra year, a logjam could occur unexpectedly.
