After a couple of late departures to the transfer portal, UCF Basketball was able to get one to come to them in former Boston College guard DeMarr Langford.

In the past month, UCF Basketball has been busy when it comes to the transfer portal. It’s gone both ways, with guys unexpectedly leaving and coming on. On the minus side, the Golden Knights not only lost Ithiel Horton to Texas but also recently, transfer commit Jaykwon Walton leaving for Memphis.

That left some depth questions for the Knights on the perimeter. They returned Darius Johnson while adding two transfer guards in Shemarri Allen and Jaylin Sellers. Yet they needed one more veteran guard to have a rotation with any hope of competing in the Big 12 next season. They’re hoping that DeMarr Langford Jr. can help fill that void.

Langford is a transfer from Boston College, a 6’5 guard that started 54 games in three years. He averaged 7.0 ppg on 42% shooting from the field this past season but in the year prior, produced 11.3 ppg and 4.8 rpg. That included 23 points and seven rebounds against Notre Dame in overtime in 2022.

Langford isn’t a star by any means, which may have been why he was in the transfer portal for such a long time this offseason. He’s a career below 30% three-point shooter and not hugely efficient overall, while just being a solid defender. Yet his size allows him to play and defend multiple positions on the court and he has 1-2 years of eligibility left as well.

With Allen and Sellers joining Langford, UCF Basketball has a lot of new faces on the perimeter for its first year in Big 12 play. There are a lot of questions as to how good this group will be overall but at least the coaching staff has some new depth to work with.
