The Mid-major breakout players make their way to the Big West conference and more specifically to the island of Hawaii. Hawaii was quietly one of the better teams in the Big West last year and they have a lot of talent returning this year to try and make a run back to the NCAA tournament. The true Sickos of the sport have watched the Rainbow Warriors play a lot as their games are usually on one of the plethora of networks showing college basketball. Those games usually start around midnight on US Soil. That means that most of the fans have rarely watched a Hawaii Rainbow Warriors game.

Hawaii is a program that has been to five NCAA tournaments and under current head coach Eran Ganot have only had one losing record. Coach Ganot is responsible for the only NCAA tournament win in Rainbow history. Coach Ganot has been very adept at finding players from overseas to come and contribute to his program and the featured player of the mid-major breakout this week is a player from Brazil. Bernardo Da Silva enters his last season in college basketball, and he hopes to make it a good one.

Hawaii is never going to be a team who runs a fast-paced offense, especially under head coach Ganot. They are a team who plays a slow half-court style and relies on their defense to keep them in games. The Warriors were one of the best defensive teams in the country a season ago and allowed very little on that end of the floor. Da Silva was a massive part of the defense and was a crucial piece to what Hawaii is trying to do. Da Silva is also getting a lot better on offense and he is going to be a huge piece to Hawaii this year on both ends of the floor. Even though most of us still won’t watch Hawaii, Da Silva is someone we should all know by the end of the year.
