13. Johni Broome

A 6’10 center from Plant City, Florida, Broome arrived at Morehead State in 2020 and became an absolutely dominant force in the paint for the Eagles. He’d actually spend just a pair of seasons with the program before transferring, but Broome undoubtedly left an impression in the OVC.

Already a stellar big as a freshman, he’d average 13.8 points and 9.0 rebounds in that first collegiate season and got better as the year went on. He’d put up 27 points and 12 rebounds against Belmont in the finals of the OVC Tournament, leading the Eagles to the Big Dance in 2021. He’d actually take a step forward as a sophomore, averaging a double-double with 16.8 points and 10.5 rebounds per game for Morehead State. This year included an 18-rebound game against Belmont and a career-high 32 points in a postseason loss to Murray State.

As a freshman, Broome was the OVC Rookie of the Year and Tournament MVP, leading the Eagles on a phenomenal season from beginning to end. He earned the league’s Defensive Player of the Year nod as a sophomore, finishing among the national leaders in both blocks and rebounds while also improving his game on the offensive front. Broome transferred to Auburn last year and will be looking for more success with the Tigers, though his numbers haven’t quite matched what he did at Morehead.
