NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Analyzing early contenders for 5-star wing Kon Knueppel
Virginia Cavaliers
The Cavaliers have a new era of players on the roster, now that the likes of Jayden Gardner and Kihei Clark are gone. They’ve loaded up on shooters, adding St. Thomas transfer Andrew Rohde and returning Isaac McKneeley, who was part of the rotation as a freshman.
The wing position has plenty of depth at the moment when you include Ryan Bond and four-star freshman, Elijah Gertrude. Knueppel certainly would find a role on the team but depending on how Rodhe looks this upcoming season, there may be a logjam for him at UVA.
Wisconsin Badgers
It’s a must-win recruitment for the Badgers, who have been after Knueppel for a while. He’s the kind of star player that can raise the ceiling for the program back to the levels of when Johnny Davis was the breakout star shooting guard for the team. Right now, they have Connor Essegian and AJ Storr on the wings, two of the best shooters in NCAA Basketball.
Since Essegian came off the bench as a freshman, Wisconsin wouldn’t have an issue sliding this five-star prospect into the rotation and having an elite shooting team. Already having both Jack Robinson and Daniel Freitag in the 2024 class, Knueppel would be the perfect finishing piece.
