17. Sukhmail Mathon

A 6’10 center from Shavertown, Pennsylvania, Mathon had himself quite the success during his career at Boston University. His career began back in 2017 and he was a minor contributor in his first few seasons, even though he started most of the games as a sophomore and junior. His big step forward happened before his senior year, but that doesn’t mean that was all the excitement.

While Mathon was not contributing much on offense in those first few seasons, he did play a role in the Terriers’ Patriot League Tournament title in 2020, though the pandemic ended his junior year before the Big Dance could be played. While the Terriers couldn’t get another conference title, he was a significantly more impactful player moving forward. Good for more than 11 points a game as a senior, his bonus season was pretty dominant, averaging 15.1 points and 10.2 rebounds during a 22-win campaign for the Terriers, including a 21-point, 18-rebound effort against Bucknell.

For Mathon, it was all about that final season, as he was named Patriot League Player of the Year while also earning a second straight spot on the All-Defense team. He was one of the nation’s best offensive rebounder in his fifth year and did average a double-double in a bounce-back season for Boston University. While his contributions were pretty sparse early in his career, his performance in those final two seasons was truly impressive once he got his chance to shine.
