Patriot League Basketball: Ranking of 25 best players from last decade (2013-23)
By Joey Loose
16. Eric Fanning
Fanning is a 6’5 wing from Trenton who originally found his spot at Wagner in the NEC way back in 2012. After limited chances in a single season, Fanning would transfer, eventually finding his place at Boston University. After sitting out as a transfer, he’d spent three years with the Terriers, becoming a significant piece in his upperclassman seasons for Joe Jones’ program.
Though he wasn’t a starter, Fanning averaged 12.3 points per game as a sophomore, with decent shooting numbers on the year. He had a 37-point outburst against Loyola-Maryland as a junior and helped lead the Terriers to the CIT, averaging more than 15 points per game on the season. He’d put up similar numbers as a senior, finally a full-time starter, and had a number of standout performances as Boston University would finish 2nd in league play.
Fanning made a certain impact and was named First Team All-Patriot in each of his last two years. He’d have decent scoring numbers and was an important part of the Terriers’ performance in those seasons. Fanning had some fantastic performances and was perhaps the league’s best wing during those last few years, though he came up just short of reaching the Big Dance.
