25. Gerrale Gates

Gates is a 6’6 wing originally from Charlotte, North Carolina who began his collegiate career at New Orleans. He had two decent years in the Southland with those Privateers, but would transfer in 2020, arriving at Holy Cross in the early days of the pandemic. Gates would become a major piece for the Crusaders across the next three seasons.

As a junior, he averaged 16.4 points and 7.6 rebounds per game, taking a major step forward with the Crusaders, including four straight 20-point games during conference play. In his final two seasons, he’d again average at least 16 points a game, with his rebounding numbers even more impressive. While Holy Cross wasn’t a conference contender, Gates did have a 32-point, 13-rebound affair against Bucknell and was the program’s most productive player in recent years.

For those efforts, Gates was named All-Patriot in all three seasons, including Second Team honors in the last two years. He was the league’s leading rebounder in his final season and was one of the top offensive players as well. While the Crusaders finished under .500 in each of his three seasons, Gates was one of the most utilized and important offensive players in the Patriot League.
