Patriot League Basketball: Ranking of 25 best players from last decade (2013-23)
By Joey Loose
20. Kyle Wilson
A 6’4 combo guard from Mission Viejo, California, Wilson joined Army back in 2012 and would become a major part of the Black Knights program for the next four years. He had an impressive freshman season where he earned significant minutes and was named the league’s Rookie of the Year, but that came before this most recent decade.
As a sophomore, he was up to 18.4 points a game, making 43% of his shots from outside the arc. That was his best offensive season and featured a myriad of 20-point performances for the Black Knights. His final seasons certainly weren’t shabby at all, as Wilson was still putting up tons of points, just making less of his 3-pointers. He even had a career-high 36-point performance in a road win over Fairleigh Dickinson as a senior, and starred with 30 points in an upset win at USC the year before.
Wilson was named First Team All-Patriot as a sophomore and led the league in points per game both as a sophomore and junior. He was a brilliant offensive player and was one of the nation’s best long-range shooters during that second season. He did fantastic work in Zach Spiker’s final years as head coach at Army, though the Black Knights fell short of the postseason in each of those seasons. Still, Wilson’s work was impressive, and he did total 2001 points in his entire career.
