SoCon Basketball: Ranking of 25 best players from last decade (2013-23)
By Joey Loose
The college basketball world keeps producing unforgettable moments and memories throughout time. Everyone from the Blue Blood starters to the bench players at low majors has their stories to tell, though some certainly are told more than others. We remember the stars of the NCAA Tournament and the All-American type players, but that doesn’t mean those are the only tales to remember.
We’ll be continuing a long-running series that has taken a deeper look at the best players of the last decade from each athletic conference. This series has already looked at every power conference and several hundred impressive and memorable players, but there are always new stories to tell. The focus today turns toward a league that has been around for several decades.
The Southern Conference, known colloquially as the SoCon, has existed in some form for one hundred years, though the members of the league are very different today from back then. These days, there are actually several very solid basketball programs in the league, as Chattanooga, East Tennessee State, Furman, UNC Greensboro, and Wofford have each had impressive runs in recent years from this conference. Frankly, there’s no shortage of great players from SoCon Basketball that we’re considering today.
Again, it’s important to note just exactly how this series works. This is a look at the last ten years, meaning players from before 2013 will not be considered. A player whose career began more than a decade ago can certainly be included, but those prior seasons won’t be considered in their inclusion. Along the same line of thinking, seasons outside the SoCon at other schools won’t be a part of their ranking today either. Without further ado, let’s start running through some impressive basketball players from the SoCon.
