SoCon Basketball: Ranking of 25 best players from last decade (2013-23)
By Joey Loose
24. Lew Stallworth
All things considered, Stallworth had a really full collegiate career, spending times at three different D1 schools. A 6’1 point guard originally from Los Angeles, his journey began in 2014 at UTEP, though he was a minimal contributor with the Miners. He’d next end up at UTRGV in the WAC for two seasons, becoming a slightly more impactful weapon with the Vaqueros before ending up at The Citadel for his senior year.
In that lone season in the SoCon, Stallworth developed into a massive part of The Citadel’s high-powered offense. He averaged 20.2 points, 6.2 assists, and 5.3 rebounds, putting up very impressive numbers in Duggar Baucom’s system. Stallworth would come pretty close to a triple-double a few times, including a 32-point, 9-rebound, 8-assist effort against Western Carolina, though it wasn’t the most successful season for the Bulldogs.
One of the nation’s leaders in assists, Stallworth was named Second Team All-SoCon for that excellent final college season. His 586 points were 4th in the conference and his potential was finally realized with his third collegiate season. While it’s true that these numbers were somewhat inflated in The Citadel’s offensive gameplan, there’s no doubt that Stallworth had talent and was also one of the league’s best shooters in that year.
